People of Dublin to celebrate ‘Home’ this Poetry Day Ireland 2026

Thursday 28th May, is Poetry Day Ireland, an annual celebration of poetry and creativity across the island of Ireland, coordinated by Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann.

Poetry lovers, schools, libraries, community groups, artists, and organisations across the country are invited to take part in a nationwide celebration of poetry today.

The theme for Poetry Day Ireland 2026 is ‘Home’, a concept that reflects one of the most resonant and predominant themes of our times.

This theme is also significant as poetry has found a new ‘home’ on the island of Ireland as Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann has returned home to its newly renovated headquarters at No. 11 Parnell Square.

There are over fifty poetry events taking place all over the island to celebrate Poetry Day, including thirteen events in Dublin. Details below.

Claire Power, Director of Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann says,

“Home provides rich inspiration for this year’s Poetry Day Ireland theme. Poetry has always helped us name where we come from, who we are, and how we connect with one another. ‘Home’ is both deeply personal and profoundly political, home can be a place of comfort, memory, longing, and possibility. As Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann has opened the doors of No. 11 Parnell Square, we are delighted to celebrate a new home for poetry, while inviting people across the island to reflect on the many ways we create and carry homes within ourselves and our communities.”

Now in its 12th year, Poetry Day Ireland continues to inspire and connect people through poetry. This year there are over fifty events taking place around the country to celebrate Poetry Day. The full programme and details on events in your area are available on poetryday.ie.

Sean Borodale, Poet in Residence of Poetry Ireland/Éigse Éireann says:

“I can’t wait to experience the outpouring of poetry from across the island this Poetry Day Ireland. We encourage everyone to welcome poetry into their lives today by attending a poetry event, visiting your local library, sharing a poem on social media, or simply sending a poem to a friend. Poetry should always have a place in our homes and our lives, but Poetry Day offers a special opportunity to pause, reflect, and make space for poetry.”
