Irish band Kneecap have recently found themselves in hot water after old footage of one of the members saying “The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP” went viral.
The band members have apologised to the families of murdered MPs David Amess and Jo Cox after old footage of the rappers calling for local MPs to be killed went viral.
Kate Amess daughter of former MP David Amess claims she was ”gobsmacked at the stupidity of somebody or a group of people being in the public eye and saying such dangerous, violent rhetoric” and is now demanding an apology.
Her father was murdered by an Islamic state fanatic in 2021. the Belfast based group have since said that they do not support Hamas or Hezbollah.
“Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah,” the band said in a statement.
“We condemn all attacks on civilians, always.
“It is never okay. We know this more than anyone, given our nation’s history.
“We also reject any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual. Ever.
“An extract of footage, deliberately taken out of all context, is now being exploited and weaponised, as if it were a call to action.
“This distortion is not only absurd – it is a transparent effort to derail the real conversation.” The group said to the press
Scotland Yard are reportedly looking into another incident were a member of the band shouted ”Up Hamas, up Hezbollah” in November 2024
Kier Starmer’s official spokesperson shared his thoughts with the public on Monday
“Completely unacceptable” and “condemns them in the strongest possible terms,” he said to the press.
