It’s an election weekend! Run for the hills!
If the idea of waiting for candidates to be elected on the 8th count doesn’t appeal to you and the implications of the Dublin City Council race, Dublin’s cinemas have you covered.
This week’s big mainstream release is Bad Boys: Ride Or Die.
You can look out for our full review in this week’s print edition, but it goes without saying the movie is a hell of a lot of fun.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back in action as everyone’s favourite loose cannon police officers, and this time the pair have to clear their name.
The flashy, stylish action is exactly what the doctor ordered and is best enjoyed with a captive audience.
You can catch the film in pretty much every major cinema.
This week’s other big release marks the directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, with Irish-set horror The Watchers hitting our screen.
Reviews say that Ishana is a chip off the old block, and it is always a bonus to see Ireland on the big screen.
Between this and Abigail, horror films shot in Ireland are quickly becoming a great Letterboxd tag.
Look out for the film in most mainstream cinemas.
The IFI will be showing The Dead Don’t Hurt, the new film from actor Viggo Mortensen.
The David Cronenberg and Lord Of The Rings favourite has stepped behind the camera again to make a western.
Mortensen stars alongside Phantom Thread star Vicky Krieps, with the pair playing immigrants in a dusty Nevada town during the golden age of cowboys.
The western is always a good film to see on a big screen, so the IFI will have you covered.
On a much lighter note, the Lighthouse will be showing the 2002 and 2004 live-action Scooby Doo movies, which we have been reliably informed have become the source of nostalgia for Gen Z.
God help us all.
Both films will be showing on Saturday and Sunday in the Smithfield cinema.
