Fire Brigade receives call out from charity

THE Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and Dublin Fire Brigade have teamed up to raise money for home nursing care and respite for children with brain damage and severe developmental delay.
Staff from 13 of the city’s fire brigade stations are aiming to collect old mobile phones and computer games in a new partnership with the charity that came about through the fire brigade’s Green Plan which embraces a sustainable approach and strategy to recycling. Mobile phones are a real currency for Jack & Jill, particularly iPhones/Smartphones. For 80 iPhones/Smartphones donated to Jack & Jill, the nationwide nursing team can provide home nursing care and respite for one family for a whole year. Every year the Jack & Jill Foundation raises more money through mobile phone recycling than it receives via its e545,000 grant from the State. The fire crew at Kilbarrack Fire Station, who work closely with the community on environmental impact outreach projects, are taking the lead on this new initiative. Nurse managers from Jack & Jill who have supported over 1,400 children and their families, including 357 families in Dublin, with home nursing care and respite 24/7, attended the launch at Kilbarrack Fire Station.
