Sky’s the limit for Dublin cycling event

CYCLING has never been more popular in Dublin and next month the capital’s citizens will have an opportunity to take part in a major event to copperfasten that popularity. Sky Ride, a free mass participation cycling event, will take place in Dublin on Sunday, September 11. Sky, in partnership with Dublin City Council, is organising the event, which will see approximately 8km of the city’s streets closed to traffic, so that everyone young and old can cycle freely and enjoy a free fun day out for all the family. Sky Ride will give tens of thousands of people, of all ages and cycling abilities, the freedom to enjoy riding on two wheels with family and friends while seeing some of the city’s landmarks and attractions from a fresh perspective.Westlife’s Nicky Byrne and celebrity stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick have been announced as the official ambassadors for Sky Ride Dublin.Nicky Byrne said he is excited about taking part in the event.

“As a Dubliner I’m really looking forward to seeing the capital in a totally different way,

? he stated.

“For anyone who hasn’t cycled in a while, why don’t you register on goskyride.ie, dust off your bike, and take to the saddle on Sunday, September 11?

?Lisa Fitzpatrick added:

“I cycle with the kids around my local area a lot, so to get the chance to cycle through Dublin’s traffic-free streets is an unmissable opportunity.

“I’ll be encouraging mums and dads to bring the family along and take things at their own pace.

?Director of Sky Ireland, Mark Deering, said they were really proud to bring this established event to Dublin this year.

“We are looking forward to working with Dublin City Council, and with our ambassadors Nicky and Lisa, to ensure it is a huge success,

? said Mr Deering.

“People young and old are welcome to join us any time from 10am to 4pm on the day, where there’ll be entertainment and a great atmosphere in store.

“I hope Sky Ride Dublin will provide inspiration for people to consider cycling more regularly, whether as a pasttime or as a daily mode of transport.

?Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Andrew Montague, who helped to launch Sky Ride Dublin, said he was very pleased to be introducing this fantastic initiative to Dublin for the very first time.
