It’s raining men!

Dublin People 14 Aug 2011

THERE was plenty of male flesh on show in Portmarnock recently when Tamango Nightclub at the White Sands Hotel played host to the very first Mr Dublin Pageant final. The event, organised by Q102’s Northside DJ Ray Shah and former Mr Limerick winner Shane Lennon, saw 15 of Dublin’s finest men North and South of the Liffey, battle it out to be crowned Mr Dublin North and Mr Dublin South where the winners of each contest went through to the Mr Ireland Final which will take place in November. Each of the contestants was put through a gruelling interview with the celebrity judges before the event kicked off. The aim of the interview was to find out what type of personality the contestants had and what winning the contest would mean to them. The celebrity judges comprised former Miss Ireland winners Sarah Morrissey and Blathnaid McKenna, Apprentice winner Michelle Massey, top model Jenny Lee Masterson, celebrity make-up artist Derrick Carberry and editor of Tatler MAN, Alex Fitzgerald. The judges needed to find two winners of the same calibre as the reigning Mr Ireland, Kamal Ibrahim, who went on to win the Mr World title in 2010, a title he currently holds until 2012 in London. The competition, hosted by Ray Shah and RTE You’re a Star winner Leanne Moore, was fierce at times as the men had to complete three fashion walks in front of a packed crowd of family, friends and supporters in casual wear, beach wear and finally in formal wear. The 15 contestants were then whittled down to the top six, three from North Dublin and three from South Dublin. Each of the six finalists were then asked one final question in front of the audience before the judges retired to decide their winners. After a highly entertaining evening with plenty of bare flesh shown, Blanchardstown IT student, Jason Aughney, and Bscene model, Jeremy McConnell Cooke, took the Mr Dublin North and Mr Dublin South titles respectively. The two winners will now go forward to the Mr Ireland Final with the aim of following in the footsteps of Kamal Ibrahim.
